In October and November of 2020, Central Vietnam was battered by multiple destructive storms that flooded the region. On October 20, 2020, the Evangelical Church of Vietnam sent a letter to Christians in Vietnam and abroad requesting aid for the flood-affected communities, in the amount of 500 million VND.
In total, the Health and Social Affairs Committee received a total of VND 1,380,215,712, well over the initial request! CityPartners (via Love in Action) contributed 8,875,000 VND to the total amount of aid. The funds were divided into 3 phases of relief, supporting 705 people, 80% of whom were believers.
Phase 1: Emergency response to provide food and essential supplies (57,000,000 disbursed).
Phase 2: Reconstruction & recovery after storms and floods, financial support to purchase household appliances which were lost in the storms and floods (VND 2 million/household), repair of damaged houses, specific damage assessment, etc. (910,547,508 disbursed).
Phase 3: Economic development for believers in 2021-2022 (411,968,204). Activities planned for this period include:
- Surveying groups of believers in the North and Central regions to assess their needs;
- Financing groups of believers that meet the project’s criteria;
- Coaching and training team leaders in management expertise, job guidance, training believers in economic groups, monitoring activities, & evaluating effectiveness.
Phase 3 has been made possible primarily because the generous aid so exceeded the amount requested — the budget is still abundant even after meeting the urgent needs of the believers in the Central region in Phases 1 and 2. In particular, believers’ families have stabilized due to the support of the government and many other resources. The results of Phase 3 implementation will be reported to benefactors upon completion.
Those who received your gifts were touched and encouraged. We give thanks to God for His full provision and His blessing.
