City Partners invites you to participate in a blood donation drive on the 13th of January Saturday from 7:30 to 11AM – promoted by Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Hanoi. Venue is on the 3rd Floor @ 29 Ly Thong Kiet, Hang Bai, Hoan Kiem. If you plan on participating, here are important tips to remember
IMPORTANT REMINDERS WHEN DONATING YOUR BLOOD:
1. Know your blood type
2. Prepare by eating iron rich foods, such as red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, iron-fortified cereals or raisins.
On the day of blood donation:
1. Drink extra 16 oz water before your appointment
2. Eat a healthy meal, avoid fatty foods like hamburgers, fries or ice cream
3. Wear a shirt with sleeves that you can roll up above your elbows
4. Tell if you have a preferred arm or particular vein that has been used successfully in the past to draw blood.
5. Relax, listen to music, talk to other donors or read while you donate
After your donation:
1. Keep the strip bandage on for the next several hours, to avoid a skin rash, clean the area around the bandage with soap and water
2. Don’t do any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for the rest of the day
3. If the needle site starts to bleed, apply pressure and raise your arm straight up to 5-10 minutes or until bleeding stops
4. If you experience dizziness or light headedness, stop what you’re doing and sit down or lie down until you feel better, avoid
5. Keep eating iron-rich foods
